Just when I thought I could lay off Taylor Marsh...
Talk radio personality (not) Taylor Marsh is begging her intellectually bankrupt, pro-Monster mini fan club to send emails to the folks at Air America and XM satellite radio. She's hoping that a wave of "please put Taylor on the radio" missives will somehow convince the network to give her a show.
Now, as you may remember from this little bio of Taylor Marsh, she portrays herself as a radio host when, in reality, she is a Hill-shill podcaster whose only actual on-air experience consists of buying time on a Nevada vanity station in hopes of convincing someone she deserves mic time. That experiment, obviously, failed.
I'm doing my part to keep the streak of Marsh radio disappointment alive.
I'm following Taylor's advice. I'm going to write a little bit to Air American and XM. I doubt my sentiments are the ones she had in mind when she hit "publish" on her Begging for Airtime post, though.
You, wise reader may want to send an email to the network, too. Let them know how you feel about Ms. Marsh's punditry talents. Tell Air America about her "progressive" outlook. Let XM know what you think about her loyal fan base (need material? check this out).
Please note that I'm not saying you should diss Marsh because she is unqualified. I'm not saying she should stay an off-air personality because her "book" was published by a vanity press in exchange for cash. I'm not arguing that you should advise AA and XM that writing personal ad hints for an alt weekly doesn't constitute legitimate journalistic experience. Nope.
I personally think her resume-inflation and telling of tall tales is bothersome, but that (alone) is certainly no reason to keep her away from all live microphones. The reason is because she writes crazy things, has created and encourages a community of Hillzombies who say remarkably distasteful things and lacks the analytical skills to do a good job. The "make believe" thing is mere icing on a cake of crap.
You can contact Air America here.
You can contact XM here.
Wondering about the cartoons? Here's why I don't use real photos of Ms. Marsh.

I am a long time XM subscriber (3 radios) and I will be reminding them the whole reason to buy satellite radio is to avoid listening to the non-stop crapfest that is broadcast radio. Thanks for making people aware of it

ReplyDeletei need xm. i've been resisting, but i'm getting closer every day.
the idea of TM actually getting a paycheck to blather is a perfect exemplar of "crapfest".

Taylor Marsh and her hackitude must never be allowed to pollute the airwaves. I'm off right away to write an email to XM. I don't pay good money to listen to morons blather on air. There's always cable TV for that

ReplyDeleteamen, brother.
and i'm not even religious.

Please keep Taylor Marsh away from the radio. I've never heard her voice and don't want to find out what it sounds like. All I've seen her do is post photo after photo of Barack Obama next to Jesse Jackson on her website; what the hell does that even mean?
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, that was a note I sent Air America.
ReplyDeleteNot that they'd need a reason other than lack of talent or audience, but I'd say that parroting, word-for-word, Clinton talking points w/out attribution is probably a decent reason to think that she lacks the stuff of a creative professional: http://alchemytoday.com/2008/03/25/is-there-any-sort-of-blogging-code-of-conduct/
Here's my email:
ReplyDeleteDear Sir or Madam:
You are undoubtedly being inundated with strident, illiterate pleas to add Taylor Marsh to your line-up since the shameless self-promoter is encouraging the readers of her pathetic blog to generate “demand.” Please don’t be fooled by this phony cattle call.
Although it's true that Marsh has a face for radio, adding an unqualified, self-important, talentless hack like her would be a mistake on the magnitude of ABC’s grievous error in adding Rush Limbaugh to the Monday Night Football crew. You don’t need that kind of hassle. Thanks for your consideration.
Air America is dead to me. I hope they hire her so it will die a fast death and we can listen to Nova radio, home to Randi and Mike Malloy.
ReplyDeleteBesides, can you imagine her losing her composure when someone "trolls" her radio show? I'm not sure there would be someone with a fast enough thumb for the "seven second" button.
ReplyDeleteWell, except maybe John McCain.
I have never heard of him. Hope to keep it that way.
ReplyDeleteshe'll just hire one of Rush's or Hannity's call screener.
ReplyDeleteAre you intending to go to the John Brown opera next month in Kansas City? I'm curious because I will be attending the opening night with the only publicly acknowledged descendant of John Brown, my wife.
ReplyDeleteJohn, why would the listeners of XM radio pay for a shitty product that they can already get on her shitty website?
ReplyDeleteShe's never going to be hired by XM or AA. I mean, the first thing they will do is listen to one of her online podcasts, and realize she's no more qualified to host a progressive political show than is Laura Ingraham. Well, at least Ingrahan knows something about radio, unlike Taylor.
ReplyDeleteI used to read her site often, and she was OK for the most part, though definitely second tier at best. I used to feel sorry for her since she got so few comments though she constantly and loudly self promoted, and I would add my commentary-two-bits just to help her ego.
Well she sure doesn't need that any more, but she's sold her soul in the process of gaining an audience. I'm betting she loses her entire current audience a month or so after The Monster drops out, and never recovers to where she was pre-primary season, having alienated so many of her former readers.
That would be sweet.
alchemy and betty-
ReplyDeleteperfecto. the nice thing is that one note from someone who knows what the F is going on should certainly carry greater weight than 1,484 emails from batshit crazy Marshans.

ReplyDeleteI'm not an AA listener and I don't have XM. Nonetheless, I consider this a message of mercy designed to protect the helpless ears of innocent listeners from the horror of a Marsh radio program.
You're right, though, it wouldn't take long for her to go wacky-pack on a caller or to totally melt down when confronted with something akin to sanity.
Sincerely,
John Brown

ReplyDeleteShe'll need the best call screeners in the biz. Otherwise, she might accidentally confront reason.
That would not be good for her.

ReplyDeleteI've read up on the opera a little and think it would be a blast to see. At this time, however, it doesn't appear as if it will work out with the John Brown Family schedule.
Niftycool that your spouse is part of the real John Brown family. That is an interesting relative to have on your limb of the family tree.

ReplyDeletethe evolution of marsh is interesting. she's gone from being your standard-issue lightweight simpleblogger with no audience to sort of a mini blogospheric celeb simply by embracing The Monster.
i don't think she'll ever end up on the radio unless it involves hosting the sunday morning "shop and swap" show in rural nebraska somewhere.
but it never hurts to decrease the likelihood of a very bad thing from happening, even when the odds are remote.
thanks for writing,
John Brown
